How do I access Compaq BIOS?

I need to replace the hard drive in my father's computer, a compaq. However, I have no idea how to access the BIOS to change the settings when I install the new drive.

Machine starts off with a screen that says COMPAQ in large letters, then goes right into windows boot up sequence, no information is displayed about hitting <whatever> to enter setup.

I've tried f1 of course....

also try F2, F12, ESC or the del key. It just various from mfg to mfg. I don't remember compaq right off hand, thankfully.

I don't remember specifically, but F2 seems familiar.

Also try [esc] and [del] if that doesn't work.

Why do you need to access the BIOS to replace a HD?

It's F10 when you see the Compaq screen (start tapping it when you see the flashing white square in the upper right corner).

F10! Boy, I didn't remember that at all!

Compaq's lack of conforming to even quasi-standards of the rest of the industry is a big reason why it's been so long since I touched one of their desktops.
