How to Convert DVD clips?

My friend is trying to get clips from a Non-encrypted DVD into a powerpoint presentation. She got a sample DVD from a vendor and they want the intro added to a presentation, and I'm helping her out.

What's the best way?
I tried using DVD2AVI, but then the resulting file is 190MB for 30seconds. I need something to convert to a standard AVI (not Divx or Xvid), and be able to change the resolution (down from 720x480).
Or I need an AVI codec which provides some compression and allows scaling of the resolution.

Adobe Premiere, or TMPGEnc will do the job.

You can change the compression type, method, bitrate, and resolution using VirtualdDub, a free video editing program. DVD2AVI is a very old program is best for separating video and audio. But that's just me.

Thanks, completely forgot about Vdub.
I couldn't figure out how to resize, but then realized its one of the filters. This worked great.
