internet shortcuts on my PC open up as print window, not in browser

For quite a while now, for some god-knows-what reason, internet shorcuts open up a print window instead of opening up in IE, and I don't know how to fix it. What the hell?

In XP you'll need to correct the File association most likely.

You can sheck them by going to:
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Folder Options> then click the "File Types" TAB

Locate the Shortcut File type in question and correct the Application that you want to open them.

That doesn't work. There's a "change" and "advanced" button for each file type, but it doesn't let me click the "change" one for Internet Shortcut. I click on "advanced" for it, and there are three options: open, print, and printto. I select 'open', click OK, but the same thing happens. Is there another filetype I should be trying to edit here?

tried repairing IE? you can do that by typing: /sfc scannow in the run box (start menu). you'll need the xp cd in the tray, of course.

Or you could try right clicking the shortcut > open with > choose program > then select IE or whatever browser you use AND check the box that says Always use the selected program...

That was the first thing I tried, but there is no 'open with' option when I right-click on a shortcut. Just:

Print
Send To ->
Cut
Copy
Create Shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties

Peon- I'll try that, thanks.

Is open listed in bold? If not, select it and choose "Set Default"

Ok, now I've got it so that when I click on a shortcut, it gives me a 'file download' window with the options: Open/Save/Cancel/More Info. Pressing 'Open' just gives me the same window again, over and over; pressing 'Save' and 'Cancel' do nothing.

WTF?

It's all shortcuts. I can't find anywhere that shows the path, even right-click -> properties.
