controlling download speed in BT?

I was wondering if in bittorrent, is there a way (or a client) that lets you throttle down how fast you are downloading at.... on my new (shitty) internet connectoin, we are splitting a dsl line capped at 40k(!) b/w 4 people... (how shitty is that, hopefully we can get it upgraded) and if i run bt on it, it justs uses up all 40k of it... so i need to be able to turn the download speeed down so i dont kill everyone elses speeds...

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

thanks

From a BT FAQ, at http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/#condrop

Limiting the download rate is much harder than limiting the upload rate, because one can only really control the rate at which packets leave the system. The rate at which they arrive is determined by the originating systems and any routers, gateways, or traffic shapers along the path. However, there are several ways that software can achieve the effect of limiting the download rate -- they amount to basically dropping some packets if they're coming in too fast, which will cause the TCP/IP stack of the sender to back off somewhat.
If you follow the link, you can see the suggestions they make.

There's really no good solution here. There's a program called Netlimiter that I see recommended sometimes, but I also hear that it's horribly buggy.

I follow the bittorrent discussion group on Yahoo and there are some efforts to try to integrate some kind of download throttling into a client, but I haven't heard of any that was in release, much less one that worked well.
