Pdf's and Printing

I'm using an HP Laserjet 5P and with some PDFs It prints them nice and quickly, with other PDFs it is slow as sin. I have checked file sizes and that doesn't appear to be the problem, it quickly printed a 30some page document but took forever (over an hour) to print a 13 page PDF.

Any answers or idea?

Was the 13-page PDF image-heavy? That would certainly slow your printer down.

all the pdfs i have been printing lately have been of scholary articles I am assuming are ripped directly from their print versions.

Although now that I look closer the articles from jstor.org appear not to be direct rips but some reconstituted version while the ones from my profs seem to be just images of the pages.

the answer would be that simple wouldnt it.

If the PDFs are from text documents (Word, etc) then they'll print pretty fast. If they're scans then they'll take much longer to print. The printer is having to print all that scanned white space along with the text. It's always best to use the original document.
