How to completely delete Windows Messenger?

Hey--could anyone walk me through completely getting rid of Windows Messenger? Not the messenger service that would send pop-ups, but the instant messenger program. I stil use AIM, and that was always my default....now Windows Messenger keeps popping up.....and i never use it....how can i get rid of it?? Ive tried to set AIM as default....but Windows Messenger keeps on reappearing. Theres no option under add/remove...Thanks!

in add/remove programs, select the option on the left that says "add/remove windows components"... you can remove it from there

I used xp_messenger_remove.vbs which is a program that will remove it for you.

Assuming you're using XP:

Start --> Run --> gpedit.msc --> Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Windows Messanger --> change the value to Enable for the 2
