I need a good DVD-ROM that will rip faster than 1-3MB/sec

Title says it all. Are there any on the market? My present DVD-Rom claims to be 16X, but I really don't think it is operating that fast. In fact, I have terrible stutter problems when playing DVD video on it (although the fact I only have 256MB of RAM may have something to do with it, my other mem stick went bad).

Suggestions?

What software are you using to play back with?

When you play a dvd-movie or a cd audio disc, it plays at 1x. Most likely your processor or ram are casuing the bottleneck.

Also check your ide controller settings to be sure it is running in dma mode. that can cause all kinds of trouble with playback as well.

to elaborate on the previous post, go into device manager and see if it is running in dma mode, if not, delete the controller in device manager and reboot, it should attempt to run in dma mode when it redetects the device.
