web cam/ conference question

How do the web cams work to talk with someone? I'm taking a job that will require a lot of travel and would like to be able to see and talk to my family when on the road. I have comcast dsl type service at home, how does one set up aside for buying the cameras and such. Also can anoyone recommend a good cam?

I have Win2K at home and XP on my laptop for work...

Thanks,
Jeff

I use the logitech web cams they hook up via USB and are inexspensive. I use my MSN Messenger account to start a Netmeeting session, although Messenger I believe also supports web cam. Just keep in mind while on dial up there will be a lag on talk time and receive time, I assume you will be on dial up on the road?? You can turn off you video and improve the performance of just talking but its still rough over dial up.

Logitech Cam

Webcam via MSN Messenger works great. Same goes for Yahoo Messenger. It's mostly plug-n-play; nothing to it.

I'd recommend spending about $50. Even for a Logitech brand or a Creative brand, their cheaper ones are less smooth than their more expensive ones. Their specs are the same in terms of resolution and fps, but for some reason, they don't work as well.
