Read Receipt function not working in Outlook 2002

Read Receipt function not working in Outlook 2002

I'm trying to set up Outlook to notify me when an email that I've sent has been read. I've been able to successfully set this up on my email account at work, but not having any luck with my home account.

I've set the Read Receipt option under the Tools --> Options --> Email Options --> Tracking Options. However, when I sent an email to my Hotmail account, or to a friends AOL account, I am not receiving a read confirmation.

I'm currently running Windows XP Professional (5..1.2600 SP 1 Build 2600) along with Outlook 2002 (SP-2).

Any help would be appreciated!

Needs to contact an admin about multiple accounts

I'm not sure it works for webmail accounts. Perhaps someone else can confirm.

You can pretty much only be gauranteed a receipt if you are sending within the same email server/structure. Even then on Outlook 2002/XP you can't be gauranteed because the person could have done something like me and disabled read receipts being returned.

Sending email to outside accounts is completely hit or miss and largely dependant upon how those email servers are setup. Sometimes I get them, for the most part I don't. Sometimes I don't get a read receipt but a delivery one though only a read was requested.

In short, I don't think there's any sure-fire way to get a receipt to an outside account.

The best you can do is get a delivery receipt back from just about any system.

Thanks for the information. It now makes sense why I get them at work almost always.
