stranage printer problem, need advice :)

Hi! I am trying to fix a printer problem for a friend, but I'm stumped. Here is the setup:

Dell P4 laptop (brand new) + Dell All-In-One Printer (also new)

When she prints, she often gets an error message (from the Dell control panel program for the printer) saying that the cartridges are stalled. She opens the printer, and nothing is wrong. At this point, the print job is stuck at "deleting" in the printer panel. Funny thing, when I look at the printer panel window, it says the document is much larger than it really is (example: it said a 121k doc was 13.5 megs)...

any ideas? I'm baffled. thank you!

ps. of course I already deleted and re-installed the printer drivers.

that's normal. the document itself is only 121k, but it has to convert it to a format that the printer can interpret. did you make absolutely sure that the carthridges are installed correctly? i don't know your exact printer, but some printers have ink tanks that will snap in place.
