Sound dropouts

I currently have an original Sound Blaster Live! with the digital i/o card add-on. I use the spdif output and plug it into my A/V receiver's coaxial input. This has worked fine for me for years.

Lately, my sound will randomly dropout. I have not made any hardware changes. I haven't made a connection to what causes it. It seems very random, sometimes the light switch, sometimes even when I click the mouse button. Maybe there is no connection to anything. Sometimes it would be an hour without dropouts, and other times it will happen 10 times in a minute. Only the digital connection does this, I have tested with the analog output simultaneously and get no dropouts from it.

I have tried replacing the coaxial cable with a "better" one, switching PCI slots of the sound card, installing newer/older drivers, to no avail. I'm pretty sure it's the computer, because other sources on my receiver do not drop out. Then again, none of them use digital coaxial. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
