computer burning out monitor

what would cause a computer to do this?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they have heard of this, i have a hp pavillion 310n in the last 2 weeks 2 monitors have been messed up ,there is no picture ,but the power comes on,and there is a burnt smell like there is electrical fire,everything is connected to a power surge,does anyone know what it may be ? any help is appreciated, thanks in advance, david [email protected]
