Need help buying a scanner..

looking to spend $300 tops.

want something speedy, and of superior quality.

will mostly be used for photos, but would like it for other things as well..

any recommendations?

You want a slide scanner. No, you can't get anything fast and high-quality for $300. (Actually, I think you can get Nikon CoolScan III's used for about $300-400, but that's it).

Really. Cheap slide scanners don't do much better than a flatbed with a transparency adapter. And you can't buy a $300 flatbed that does transparencies well. For $300 you can get something fast with ho-hum quality.
