Protocol Blackberry Devices use to authenticate themselves to the network?

Hi All,

I'm curious to know what protocol corporate blackberry devices use to authenticate themsevles to the corporate network.

I'm not talking about the new GSM/GPRS bb devices, but the devices used for mobile professionals to check their corporate email wirelessly.

I checked blackberry.com and did some google searches, but I keep finding mail protocol - I'm looking for what methods the bb devices use to logon to the corporate network.

Thanks.

I found that using Blackberry Enterprise Server you need to allow outbound traffic on port 3101.

Does anyone know what the inbound restrictions have to be set at?

Hopefully this helps.

The BlackBerry Desktop Software uses an email transport protocol to reach the BlackBerry handheld, while the BlackBerry Enterprise Server maintains a constant direct TCP/IP level connection (Server Routing Protocol or SRP) to the wireless network. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server product does require a configuration change at the firewall to allow an outbound-initiated connection on port 3101 using TCP. This is not a “hole” in the firewall because only an outbound connection is required.
