Well I got my burner on Monday and got it installed today, after installing it I did do the firmware update and so far I have tested 3 different types of media. One type is the same brand. It is called Nashua. I tried first the -R and it worked with out a problem.
Then I moved onto their +R and I had a problem with that one. I got to looking at the disc and it looked like there was something on the disc so I might try it out again and then again the +R was .50 more so I just might stick with the -R.
The second type of media was a Sony's +R's and I tried 2 of the 3 and got an error writing to the disc right away. I don't think I am going to spend the money to even try Sony's -R's. So for the price tag of $3.15 a disc (because of a employee discount) normally $3.49 you get the disc as well as a normal size DVD case.

Hmmm... that's funny. The guy must've bought a bunch of really cheap media. I've only used Fuji 2.4x and TDK 4x DVD+R media on this drive using Nero 5.5.10.42 as the burn app. Been doing it for 6 months now and still haven't made a coaster. Just bought some Apple 4x DVD-R, so I'm gonna test that out tonight. If it works for me, that means, people are just being real cheap about media selection.
BTW, make sure you stick w/ either 2.11 or 2.16 firmware for this drive. The 2.18 was a mistake and pissed a lot of "must have lastest firmware" people off. I'm still using 2.11.

The thing is out of the 100 blank discs that I bought I was able to make 80 good copies and then all of the sudden it stoped working for me. So I went out and bought some other media Memorex brand and I get the same message when I try to use the program.
