While we are on the topic what is DVI & why do I care if my LCD supports it? Does it require a special cable?

DVI is a digital connection. You would need a video card that also has a DVI output. It does need a special cable. While analog video might be ok on a 17", anything bigger, and you really should use DVI. It just gives you a sharper/clearer picture.

I have an analog connection and so does the PC I'm building...

This video card (shown below) has a DVI connection on the left and a standard VGA connection on the right.

So guys (and gals), which of these monitors would you get?

DVI is important. It makes a world of differnce I have noticed in monitors. I like the Sony. I just got an 18" Viewsonic VX800 and its great too. Got a good deal through Dell when they had a Sale

Any DVI cable that fits the monitor and the card will work.

Your best bet is DVI-D because it will even fit DVI-I connectors and you only want the D (digital) part of the signal anyway.

Well I went to CC and took a look for myself and this one was by far the best as far as picture quality and looks...

I'm glad this thread helped someone else with their question(s), but it sure hasn't helped me so far...

I guess a third time is a charm...

I'd go w/ a Samsung 172T or 172W (15:9). Review for 192T.

I think you have answered your own question here. You are the one that has to look at it, pick the ones that suits your eyes the best. If I was picking a monitor, chances are I would take the one that looks the best, even if it didn't have the best service or warranty or etc.....

Monitors are like tv's, have all three setup exactly and run off 1 comp to see the difference.
