Video Card Question???

OK, I currently have a Geforce 3 Ti 200. I was looking at the Geforce 5200 and my questions is would I see a major difference?

It depends on what the rest of your system can do.

From what I've heard the ATI card 9700? is better for the same money.

I've got a GF3 ti 200 as well with a XP1600 and there's no game I can't play.

There would be very little difference with the Geforce 5200. The 5200 line replaces the GeForce MX line, which is the extreme budget line. Personally, i'd buy a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 over a GeForce FX 5200 for the ~100 dollar price point.

I just recently upgraded from your same card to a 9700 Non Pro($199).

Now can play online at 1024x768 with everything turned on and maximized no sweat. Previously I had to play @ 800x600 with some graphic options off to get decent framerates. MPEG/Divx playback is improved as well as DVD playback.

A FX5200 is a waste of money upgrading from your card. Get at least a Geforce4 TI200 to see an improvement like fumanstan recomended.

My system is like yours. I have an XP1800 w/ 512MB Ram. Now I don't play that many games but I saw the 5200 for 79.00. Now if I can pick up the ti 4200 for the same price I will go that way.

i gotta agree with the other people here...the ti4200 is the way to go.

newegg has the ti4200 64meg version for $89

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...123-118&DEPA=1

or here for 88.5 shipped

it's better to get the 128mb version, but that'd cost you more.

Of course, if you're fine with the way games run on your ti200 then i would just keep it until a game finally comes out that brings your system to it's knees. I mean, if you're playing CS and Diablo 2 or something there's no reason to upgrade, but if your UT2k3 frames are struggling then it might be a good time for a new video card. :)

A few of the games that I play are RTCW and 1942. What do you think?

I too would like some graphic card advice. I am looking to upgrade an older computer, a 933mhz with 256megs of ram, in case that matters. It is only used for CS and AIM (no.. not me) but I am getting a lot of complaints about graphic problems running CS.

Should I be looking at the 9700? Is the system the limiting factor here? Thanks!

9700 to handle aim and CS? you really shouldn't go for that much juice. besides if you go for a 9700 you will be needing pretty much a lot of new items such as More power as I believe the 9700 does take up some juice.

what kind of complaints are you getting about the graphics problems running CS? and what kind of Graphics card do you have on it right now?

I don't know about BF1942, but i play RTCW competitively and the game is more CPU limited then video card limited. So my upgrade from a Geforce 3 to a Radeon 9700 really didn't help frames that much.

i've got a pny geforce4 ti4200 and have it overclocked a bit. works great with every game i've tried.

probably not as pretty as the top 'o the line radeons....but it was $89.
