Need another system analysis....

Ok, after hearing that I was building my own PC, a friend decided to do the same thing. However, he is on a much tighter budget, so he doesn't want to spend over 600. He came up with 2 systems on newegg:



Keep in mind that he has some components already, such as DVD-ROM, keyboard, mouse, etc. He just wants to know if there are any parts that would be better for his budget, the quality of the video card, and what small parts (cables, screws, etc.) he would need.

The AMD config looks pretty good. For the Intel config, I'd pick a motherboard with an Intel chipset. The one that's in the wishlist now uses a Via chipset and I'd stay away from that.

In both cases, I'd reconsider the video card. I haven't seen any benchmark numbers for the Radeon 9200, but my understanding is that like the 9000 and 9100, they're based on a core derived from the old 8500 core. For $100, you can get a Geforce4 Ti4200, which will be noticeably faster.
