Noise from speakers when scrolling...

I am running Windows XP Home and using Microsoft Wireless Blue Optical Mouse, Creative Extigy external sound and Logitech THX certified surround speakers.

When I am surfing and listening to a music CD using Windows Media Player 9 I hear this awful static noise when scrolling the page. This happens regardless of using the wheel to scroll or clicking on the arrow down button on the screen.

This is very annoying and I have no idea what's causing it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Try checking the "Mute" box on your Line-In. Should be in your audio control panel somewhere. That's what causes/solves it for me.

I tried it with fingers crossed but still happening.

I muted line-in both in Windows and in the Creative software.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Another thing you can check is your cables. Make sure they are not running along/twisted around each other. If they must cross, cross them at 90 degree angles, other wise just separate them as much as possible (i.e. move your mouse cable away from your speaker cables/wires).

Thanks for the additional suggestions.

I'm at work right now so I'll try moving the speakers away from the monitor when I get home tonight.

The mouse doesn't have a cable, it is wireless.

Well, I tried moving the speakers further from the monitor with no luck. Still having an awful static interference whenver scrolling up or down.

turn off your computer, open the case, and remove the analog cable from your cd-rom to your sound card.

EDIT: i'm slow and just noticed this is an extigy... not sure if there's any analog connection since it's external? but that's what it sounds like to me.

Thanks Eeyore....

Yeah the Extigy is external so it's only connection is the USB.

What's really odd is that it stopped making the noise this evening for no explanable reason. I didn't do anything to fix it.

Hopefully it will remain a mystery and not happen again.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
