How do LCD Monitors work as TV's?

this doesn't exactly fit in TV talk or Computer Talk... so i'm asking here...

assuming i had the correct hardware to run a TV signal into an LCD monitor (flat panel or whatever) would it even work? Or would it be not lit enough to see? or hard to see at angles or far away (or any other concerns?)

just a thought. thx.

This fits in the Computer Forum just fine.

Yes it would work. There are outboard tuners that plug into the LCD or you can use a TV tuner board in your computer.

The off-angle visibility of LCDs is much better than it used to be. And brightness is very good too.

Check out LCDs at computer stores or Best Buy or someplace like that and see how well you can see them. I think the biggest problem you'll have is size, not brightness.

If you have money it might be easier to get a big tv with computer inputs. Like one of those plasma tvs or something.

We have an LCD screen in our Van...its one of those drop down DVD units....in that type of an environment, they are fantastic. I do have a friend that has a 10" fold down unit that mounts under his kitchen cabinets that looks really nice. I'm just not sure if the quality would hold once you get beyone say 17" or so.
