Compressing Adobe Acrobat Files?

Hi,

I am working on an Adobe Acrobat document in my office, and by scanning in 16 pgs at 300 dpi, I currently have a 42mb document. I was wondering if there was anyway that I could trim this down to a more suitable file size while keeping a decent aesthetic appeal to the document.
