Question about Sonic DVD Software...

One of my father's friends recently bought a Dell pc that came with a DVD burner. He's asking how to make copies of DVDs and if the Sonic Software can do this or not.

I did a search and it sounds like he should have another piece of software that performs this operation.

Is that correct? It sounds like the Sonic software is for making movies, not copying DVDs.

I haven't gotten into DVD burners much yet, so I appreciate any help.

Sonic is for making DVD movies not copying. Although copying is not illegal (yet) I don't think we can openly talk about it here.

If you want more info you can IM or email me if you like.

Funny thing is I saw an infomercial for a "media" computer and they include a program for copying DVDs.

Google's not going to tell me what software comes with a Dell PC, and since I don't know which model he purchased, I couldn't find it easily on Dell's web page. I know there are a lot of Dell users here though, so I thought someone here might be able to help me.

I haven't been following the DMCA lawsuits for the last year or so, so I wasn't sure whether that Copy something DVD company lost their lawsuit or not. But I read a post by another member here that sounded like his DVD burner came bundled with Sonic and another piece of software that made DVD copies, so I wasn't really sure as to the current status of this software either.

palebluedot,

Thanks for the info, that's really all I needed to know.

This is the latest I know of the lawsuit. It doesn't sound good for the software people...

Thanks for the link. I don't spend enough time on the forum anymore.

I hope they win. I think the DMCA is way too restrictive in terms of fair use. Though I think they have a legitimate concern about online file sharing.

In any case, feel free to lock this up as I have the answer I needed and don't want to foster any unwelcome discussion on how to copy DVDs using potentially illegal software.
