HUGE Kazaa problem!

Why have the contents of my shared folder gone????? They were there one min. The next I go to the folder to play something and everything is gone! I restarted my PC. Still gone! WTF?? Has then happened to anyone else? I searched for some files that were in their and nothing came up! I had over 10 gigs in there!

Could be a virus. Kazaa has had some problems with people sending viruses to other users.

Why dpn't you ask the RIAA? :)

Thrush 05-26-03 02:51 AM

Have you recently run any disk cleanup programs? I had something similiar happen to me once because for some reason the software mistook them for temporary files.

The RIAA is supposed to have a virus or something that deletes mp3's on people's PC's. If this is at work and on a network folder then it could be an admin like myself who deletes this kind of stuff from time to time.

I had other things than MP3's in there. Everything is gone. I ran virus scan and nothing came up. I guess I'll just have to download everything again, and move stuff to a different folder.

I have a great idea! Why don't you go buy the CD's?

This isn't a discussion on the morality of Kazaa. It's about what happened to the folder. So go push your agenda somewhere else.

If this is the RIAA and MPAA then their agent program probably scans your entire hard drive for media files.

When ever you use one of these file sharing things you are basically opening up your computer to the outside world. Hope you don't have any personal stuff on there.

Nothing else is missing just what was in the Shared Folder.

oh boy. two words here.

On-Demand Virus-Scan.

Well, it was four, but I made it two.

Not a solution, but a future prep suggestion.

Now if you really want to save your data, you most certainly can!

I suggest Ontrack Easy Recovery Professional. This was originally suggested by our own Zuffy on a few threads months ago for data recovery.

The software is only $499.00

But it depends if the area on the hard drive was overwritten or the memory location was simply erased...

another option for data recovery is a program called Active File Recovery. you can DL a demo and see if it can find your files, and if it locates them, the full version is ~50 dollars and will recover them. I just used it to recover 20 gigs from a partition I accidently deleted and it worked great. the website is: http://www.file-recovery.net/
