Wireless Compatability Question

Hello everyone,

I just bought a Microsoft Wirelss base Station 802.11b off of Ebay. Do I need to buy a Microsoft Wireless Access Point too? Or can I go with another brand? Like Linksys or Netgear...?

Thanks

Chris

if you have a base station, i assume that IS an access point. (access point connects wireless clients to a wired network).

if this is for a desktop you want to get a USB or PCI 802.11b card. if it's for a laptop, you want a PC-Card one. it generally doesn't matter what brand you get as long as it's 802.11b. some brands have longer range than others, but they should all work together pretty well.

I'm 99% sure that Microsoft is "WiFi Compliant". Just make sure the rest of your components are as well. And I believe all the brands you mention are.

Note - there may be different set up procedures for different brands, so you will want to read the directions on each for installing.
