120GB Western Digital hard drive for about $30

Starting 5/25 OfficeMax has the 120GB WD hard drive for $159.99 - $20 instant rebate - $50 mfg. rebate - $30 OfficeMax rebate - $30 off $150 OfficeMax coupon).

You'll have to add $10.01 of stuff to use the $30 off $150 coupon.

The drive is listed in the ad as having two part numbers, 2014-8555 and 2034-6127, and the drive on their site shows the model to be 120GB Internal Hard Drive Item # 20346127 , Style # WD1200JBRTL.

The "JB" model is the 8MB buffer with 3 year warranty, the picture shows the 2MB "BB" model with 1 year warranty so who knows which one you'll get? I suppose you could exchange a "BB" for a "JB" at their B&M but some people report that the "JB" model has been in the "BB" box in the past with a note about an upgrade.

Look at the ad. $159.99 - the rebates, including the $20.

How reliable are the rebates? I'm mostly concerned about the OfficeMax one.

I'm pretty sure Officemax is pretty slow about updating the price on their website. I tried to get in on a deal for an $80 120GB, but at 7 in the morning on Sunday the price still wasn't updated, and then they were sold out. I could use the space, it would save me from having to archive crap off.

OfficeMax took the 120GB offline. I hope they put it back after midnite.

I'll be watching too. Even at 179.99+rebates, it's still be a decent deal.

Nothing yet. They were probably bombarded with e-mails asking about it and decided to remove it from their site to avoid an onslaught of $30 off $150 users.

It appears the drive won't be available online and it seems to be OOS in most stores. But you can call in the order and use a coupon valid for phone orders.

They told me the drive was backordered but should ship out within 5 to 7 days and the sales date would show as today.

Here's the phone number: 1-800-283-7674

Pick a coupon ($30 off $150):
A-9769
A-10016
A-10129
A-10133
A-10347

So I called in and got an operator who said that this drive wasn't available to order over the phone. I called back again and got another operator who checked inventory and said that they were out. Guess I waited too long.

I got mine yesterday morning over the phone. They may indeed be out in many areas by now - it IS regional inventory, so some MIGHT still get lucky.

The drives are backordered. They were also out when I called but they said they expect to get more in soon and they'll send me one when they do.

The only question is whether they'll get here before one of the rebates expires. I have a feeling they'll have to make an accommodation on that one since the purchase and received dates are so far apart. If they don't you can always cancel the order or return it.

I'd try again.

I tried calling again, so it's been 4 times now with 4 different operators. The first said that the drive was not able to be ordered over the phone. I was told by the last 2 that they are out of stock and there aren't any on backorder because it's a discontinued drive and they've exhausted their supplies. There aren't any more coming in, just new models. They said to try the stores, you might get lucky and find one. Maybe those that called yesterday will get them. The verdict today seems to be that there are no more to be had.
