Which is the better budget software, Microsoft Money or Quicken?

I currently use Money 97 but I've got things so bungled up in it that I want to start all over. So I figured I'd get new software while I'm at it. I've never used Quicken before.

I saw at Best Buy that I can get Msoft Money 03 for free after $30 mail in rebate.

I'll only be using it for balancing the checkbook (download from bank), categorizing expenses, budgeting, and keeping track of home loans. I won't be paying bills from it, printing checks, or doing taxes.

So what is your recommendation?

I've been using Money since Money 97, and I love it and will never ever try anything else. I believe my ledger goes back to August 1st of 1997!

Money. I use money 97 now, and have for years. My new laptop comes with money 2002 so I guess I'll be using that.

To be fair I never gaive Quicken much of a chance though.

Probably either works well. I've used Quicken since 1990, starting with an early DOS version and upgrading every 2-3 years. Everything is set up in Quicken and it wouldn't be worth converting everything (and getting used) to Money.

I still use Managing Your Money (DOS Version 12) ...

It's the ONLY dos program I still use. It does everything I want.

Money and Quicken are very similar products. Last I checked, Money can read Quicken files and convert it to Money format. Quicken cannot read Money files.

If you want to try both, then start with Quicken. Then convert to Money and try that. This way you won't have to start from scratch when going from one to the other.

I previously used Quicken. However, my new PC came with Money and I love it.

I swear by Microsoft Money. Six years ago I got a PC with both, and I tried Money first. Quicken might be better, but I've never felt the need to even try it since Money was working out great.

Admittedly, I haven't used it for 5-6 years, but Money was superior to Quciken back then. I'd imagine they've both gained approximately equal ground since then.

I use an old version of Mon(opol)ey that came free with my computer (imagine that). I tried to upgrade, but the newer versions won't work with my PC ever since I uninstalled Internet Exploder.
