Does anyone know anything about MS Fax on Windows XP?

I continue getting errors because I don't have a fax printer. I thought the whole idea of faxing directly from a MS application was so the printer wasn't needed. I use a regular laser printer, but I don't need to print anything when sending a fax and I won't be receiving any faxes. Does anyone have any advice, because I really think I'm going to cry here.

Exactly where are you getting errors?

If you want to send faxes you have to set up a modem as your fax printer and then "print" the stuff you want to fax to it, just as you would a printer.

To receive and print faxes, you need a modem to answer the phone and receive the fax. Then you can open the received fax and print it on your laser printer.

I didn't think they included MSFax with Windows since Windows 95. There are lots of other fax software products available though.

Fax is built into WinNT and Win2K. I use it regularly.

I haven't used it in XP yet so I can't say for sure on that one.

In XP, go to Add/Remove program and Windows components. The option for Fax is there to add. I haven't tried it since I have a separate printer/fax machine.

How do I set up the modem as the fax printer?

I won't be receiving any faxes, so I don't need the modem to answer the phone.

If you've done what Jepthah said above (I'm taking this from Win2K which I'm using right now), you would go into the control panel->fax and under advanced options you'd add a fax printer.

Let me know if XP doesn't look like this and I'll turn it on.
