So, is there any point to AGP 8x right now?

I saw that there are tons of geforce mx440 and ti4200 cards which have AGP 8x. strangely enough, i didn't see any ti4400 cards and only 2 ti4600 cards with AGP 8x. if 8x is better than 4x, why does the lower end cards have it? also, is there any substantial performance gain with 8x?

No ... and prelim tests have actually shown 8x cards to perform slower than their 4x counterparts. Probably because the drivers have no idea what to do with the extra bandwidth.
