M$ Auto updates?

Was wondering if there was anybody that leaves it running?

Is it actually spyware?

I have the service disabled, since I just like to check the update pages myself monthly.

I prefer to do the update myself. I usually run Windows Update 2-3 times a week.

It is spyware. At least to the point where even if you disable it, it still contacts microsoft. I found this out myself with win xp by typing "netstat" in a cmd prompt window immediately after booting - it showed an http connection in the process of shutting down to an unidentified ip address. I pointed my browser at the ip address and it came up as windows update. This was weeks after I had disabled windows update through the gui. I've since configured my firewall to completely block all communications with anything to do with microsoft.
