Is this a good deal?

My buddy is selling me his PC. It's relatively new and has rarely been used.

P4 1.78 GHZ processor (I know it's not a 2Gig Processor, it's in the 1.7 range. I think 1.78, but I may be off by a few).

768Megs of ram (I'm don't know if it's ddr or sdram though)

40 Gig Drive (most likely 7200)

Desktop (not a tower, it's about 14" wide by 15" long and 6" thick). Not that that is relevant.

It currently has a plain old CDROM, but it will have a DVD/CDR combo that is being shipped soon. Oh yeah, the CDRom drive is removable by a click of a button. It's very cool.

Made by IBM

$500.

So should I take it?

Thanks for any input.

EP-4G4A Epox Motherboard for Intel P4 - 89.00
Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz 256K Processor - 123.00
CD-ROM Drive - $20.00
Crucial Micron 512MB 64x64 PC2100 DDR RAM - 96.00
CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB 32x64 PC 2100 DDR RAM - 48.00
Generic Case - 40.00
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - 78.00

All from Newegg with accesories for $548.

That is if you built your own. Go to Dell and see what systems go for. I think you can get one that is faster including monitor for $600 after rebate.

I think your friends is a good deal if you don't want to go through all the hassle of buying one and if you don't want to built your own.

It's most likely SDRAM and I think I know the system already. Ask your friend to lower it to $400 - 450.

Thanks for the info. Sorry I didn't thank you guys sooner.

The PC is an IBM NetVista but I don't know if it's the S or M series (it's one of those 2).

I'm going to hold off unless I can get the CDR/DVD drive I think.

Thanks again!
