COM port! I am of below average intelligence!

One of those crazy mystery deals.

My Palm stopped being able to sync yesterday. I made no changes to my PC or the Palm.

I performed the Hyperterminal test outlined at the Palm site (click on "HotSync cradle, testing").

At the end of step 4 ("Click OK"), I get the following error:

"Unable to open COM1."

I'm tech-savvy enough to go to my device manager and check out COM1. Anything beyond that, and I'm a little lost. According to device manager, it's working fine.

Windows 98SE.

Thoughts?

You probably have another program using COM1. Did you close the Palm synch program before testing in Hyperterminal?

See. My thread title was spot on.

I closed the synch program and the test worked.

This would indicate a software problem.

I'm going to resinstall Hotsych Manager and try again.

Thanks.

Reinstalling didn't fix the problem.

Hooray!

May be the baud speed or flow control is setup incorrectly in the Device Manager for COM1 that your Palm do not like.

Keep in mind that the COM port worked flawlessly for 3+ years.

And it's set up exactly the same as the Palm software.
