Need Registry help please

I have a problem in my Registry (I think).

I installed a new piece of game software. The dxdiag tells me I have an inactive sound entry in my registry and the game will not run.

I go into regedit and do a search and there is nothing in the registry.

Help?!?!?

You mean you can't find what you're looking for in the registry? There has to be something in the registry. Do you have Admin permission? If not, try it when you do.

You can look through here...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...entry+registry

But it sounds like this may be a question for the game's manufacturer.

It is my home PC. It looks like a USB device, I suspect that it was a mini-dics player I tried to setup for my son. I have searched the registry for the device code, the device id and the entry id and the registry says it is not there.

Would uninstalling the USB devices clear it out? Would upgrading to XP clear it out?

Thanks.
