Apple G4, can I add an internal CD-R?

My dad has an original G4 from when they first came out. He wants a cd-r. Can I get an internal and install it? Or , do I need a USB external? And what software will he need?

I know nothing about Mac's and niether does he.

Any help / advice?

I'm pretty darn sure you can get an internal CD-R drive to replace the existing CD-ROM drive, if nothing else (don't know if the original G4 has a spare 5 1/4" drive bay or not).

As for software - well, you'll need something like Toast if you want to burn CD-Rs. Depending on the drive you buy, & where you buy it from, it might come with Mac compatible burning s/w anyway, + any drivers you might need.
