New Versions of Trillian Released

Big day in Trillian land. www.trillian.cc

Version .74 has been released, upgrade some minor bugs, glithces, etc.

BUt the big news, is Trillian Pro 1.0. It costs $25, and has a very very nice interface, and is compatible with all the old skins, but it also adds a plug in interface, which you can use to track stocks, weather, news, sports, etc.

The cool thing is , if you were a donating member of Trillian, they gave you a free 1 year key to use Pro. IT includes any upgrades they make over the next year, and tech support.

I was a donater and thus have Pro for free. I'm very happy.

For those of you "not in the know" Trillian is an all in 1 chat program. It lets you use AIM, MSN, Yahoo, MSN , and IRC all out of the same program. And it takes up less RAM for all of them, then AIM does alone.

the thing i dont like is the $25 only gives you one year of upgrades.. granted it's a whole year, but then you pay again.. and granted it's not expensive, but I just feel like they sold out.. wasn't unexpected though, it's a great, very popular product, and they're still doing a "free" version but i've heard that before and it became less free and more ad-ware as it went along (aim, icq)

as long as they continue to offer a free version that doesnt include any ads or other annoyances.. Ill reserve my opinion on them selling out

can't blame the guys for getting you hooked on the product.. then offering to let you pay for additional features..

this is basically the way that agent/free agent news readers have always worked.. its a pretty good system, because it caters to everyone

twikoff : I do agree, now, if they had just said "hey listen...from now on,all we are going to make is Pro, sorry" I would have far angrier, but , as is, I got Pro for free because I donated/registered my copy. I also downloaded .74. Theya re quite similiar, Pro feels more polished however(and for the $25 asking price, it better)

Trillian is one of the better instant messengers around, if not THE best...

I stopped using Trillian when AOL kept screwing them up every few days(I've personally grown to hate instant messengers). Has that died down yet? I got the email about the Pro version, and went ahead and downloaded it and generated myself a key since I was a donator.

Yeah, I think everytime AOL screwed with them, they were able to keep tweaking and tweaking, until finally they were recognized by OSCAR as an official AIM client.

Is .74 out now?

I started up trillian last night and it told me that .74 was available, but the download page it took me to only had .73(which I am using).

Guess I'll check from home after work today.

Great program. I had heard of it before but was too lazy to download it. I'm glad I finally got it.

I got pro for free
I donated through pay pal a few months ago through their voluntary donation thing and got an email with the link to get pro and a key
well I guess technically it wasn't free as I did donate earlier, but I donated less than $25

I like the new plugin feature. Nice to see the news and weather with your contacts.

On the one hand, I had always meant to donate when they fixed a few things (that still aren't fixed), so now it kind of sucks that I didn't. But on the other, there's really nothing new in Pro that I'd pay for.

Donating only gets you a year free anyway, so don't feel too bad.

You have to extract them to a plugins subdirectory folder in your Trillian directory. Then go to preferences and down to plugins, and add each one. Then you can configure how the plugin should work.

For some reason, my weather one doesn't work anymore?

How do you get Trillian to alert you when your buddies come online (like MSN Messenger)? In the screen shots, it looks like there's a window that pops up saying so-and-so is online, but I can't seem to find the option or plugin to do it. Any help? Please?

Unfold your Offline contact folder, then right click on the buddy "set alerts" and go from there.
