Help! Something is f'ed up in Word 2000

This is a problem with someone in a field office, so I can't see it firsthand. But he says that in Word 2000, whenever he hits the spacebar, it does like a triple-space. the spacing between letters is normal, as is the line spacing. He says it's just the spacebar.

He says that nothing else is affected (such as Outlook) - it's just in Word. Assuming he's explaining this properly, is such a setting even possible in Word? And if so, how do you undo it?

FWIW - Windows 2000

I have two suggestions as a 'general' fix all for word (and other office products)

#1, fairly simple and not too intrusive on the user

Search the Office install CD for a file called support.dot
send it to him and tell him to open it in word with macro support on

click the troubleshoot utlity button inside this file

from the drop down menu pick Data Regisrty key and click delete

now pick normal.dot, click rename and rename it

now pick options registry key, click delete

close word and restart see if problem persists, you could also do these one at a time and see if anyone by itself fixes the problem.

#2 drastic action, but with a test

since it is windows 2000, you can log on as a different user and see if the probelm persists. If it does NOT then you can delete the user profile for the non working user and recreate he should be fine.

If it DOES happen under a new user, then remove office, run office eraser and reinstall offce (after of course you try my step one above)

One of these or combo of these is sure to fix every problem related to word.
