Need good PVR software for use with PCTV tuner card

I tried Snapstream PVS, Showshifter and PowerVCR II. None of these would recognize my tuner card. I'm running out of options here and I really don't want to go back to the crappy PCTVvision software. Any ideas? I have the alternate drivers installed.

That should be the same card as the I/O Magic card then which came with PowerVCR II. I used the BT848 drivers and PowerVCR II that came with the card under several OSs with great success.

BT848 drivers? You sure they aren't BT8x8 drivers instead because my card is based on conexxant's cn878 chipset (according to pinnacle's website).

I had an I/O Magic card. I ended up beating the #hit out of it with a hammer because it couldn't do the simplest things. Cost $20... you get what you pay for.

I found it to be a great card with a far superior picture to my three other Hauppauge cards. Now a $250 Hauppauge WinTV PVR card sits idle.

The only reason I got the Pinnacle Pro is because it also was $20 had a radio tuner, remote control, and is stereo.

I have a I/O Magic and had problems with it once. You have to be very specific in the order the drivers are installed. If you don't do it in the right order then it won't work even if you get them all installed.

What order would that be? You mean video first and then audio?

Are these 'WDM' drivers different from the regular (or alternate ones)?

Sorry, I don't really remember. I think if you do it in the order windows detects them it works ok. But if one install fails, when you reboot the others load instead of reinstalling the failed one so they get installed out of order.

I think there are 3 separate drivers you have to install. One of them installs two things. You should end up with (or at least this is what I have installed) WDM Audio Capture, WDM Crossbar, WDM TVTuner, and WDM Video Capture.

I also have Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs, and Audio Codecs installed but I'm not sure if those are related to my I/O Magic or my SB Live! card.

Here's what shows in my Sound, video and game controllers tab in Device Manager:

Is that similar to what you have? I don't seem to have a WDM Video Capture driver: that might be what that multimedia video controller is.

Yeah, it looks like somehow a driver didn't get installed. The same exact thing happened to me one time. I'm pretty sure deleting all the drivers, pulling the card and starting all over fixed it.

Looking at the install manual for my card (I/O Magic), the order should be:

1) I/O Magic, WDM Video Capture (probably the one you are missing) The manual says you might get a version conflict box in ME. Click Yes to keep.

2) You should reboot now. It says the rest should install automatically....I/O Magic WDM Audio Capture, WDM TvTuner, and WDM Crossbar.

Specifically for step one (based on ME instructions):
1. Power on system
2. System should detect new hardware and open add new hardware window. Click Specify the location, click next.
3. Search for best driver and removable media. Next
4. Should find I/OMagic, WDM Video Capture (H:\BT848.inf). Next
5. May get version conflict. Yes to keep. Reboot.

You might have to reinstall PowerVCR, but I'm not sure about that.

Where'd you score that deal?

Several months ago CompUSA had them for $40 with $20 rebates. About the same deal with the I/O Magic card a few months before that.

Well, I uninstalled those alternate BT drivers, and instead installed the updated WDM drivers from the Pinnacle Europe website (version 5.01 if anyone cares). I also had to install the upgrade to 5.1 (since 5.01 did not support NTSC) but as it stands now, everything is working AOK! I'm thinking of purchasing PowerVCRII over ShowShifter and Snapstream, since it has an easier interface (for me anyway) and I can use it with the PowerDVD I already have. Thanks for all the help, guys.

So you followed the advice over at AVS, huh?

BTW, my drivers on the CD were version 4.02 (which worked fine) but I updated to 5.something which also worked fine. Sometimes you should use what came with the product, at least for a start. What version came with yours?

Yeah, I took his advice. My cd says v5.01 on it. I don't really care because it's finally working.
