Disabling "Switch User" From Logoff Menu on Windows XP

Disabling "Switch User" From Logoff Menu on Windows XP

Hi All,

Is it possible to disable the "Switch User" icon when someone hits the Logoff Button on the Start Menu?

I'm not talking about disabling fast user switching - I want to keep that - but I just want to make it so no one can hit the "Switch User" and keep that userID logged in. I want each person to completely logoff.

Is there some sort of registry hack or option to do this?

Thank you all for the help

Bump, anyone know the answer?

Thanks

According to the articles, the "Switch User" button and the Win+L shortcut are both part of Fast User Switching.

Are you trying to keep the Win+L shortcut available for you as admin, while removing any mention of "Switch User" for all other users?

I would like to know the answer as well!

When my kid leaves the computer on and the screen saver starts, it leaves her session up and running. When I log on I get a performance hit, since her session is still up and running. I want hers to logoff, not switch. I hope that this is not a hijack. I think Mitz and I are looking for simular things.

goLucky, No problem, no hijack whatsoever - we're just trying to find the answer to our question :)

digitalmanAZ - those links show how to toggle between fast user switching and not fast user switching.

So basically it's either we figure out a way to ENABLE the menu at startup so they can click on their own user id and not type in anything

...or...

figure out a way to DISABLE the "SWITCH USER" button and just allow the LOG OFF button.

Basically, you want the Welcome Screen, but not the ability to Switch User, once logged in.

Unfortunately, I think those two functions are inextricably intertwined. I'll take a look around on the net some more tomorrow, but I think you may be SOL.
