Please help me solve my sound card problem....

I am running ME on my pc. When I boot my pc the volume control no longer appears in my system tray on the bottom right corner. When I look in the Device Manager, it shows, my sound card 2 times. I can delete it out of the Device Manager, reboot my pc and it will show my sound card 2 times again. When I look at my Sounds and Multimedia properties, and look at the Audio tab, it shows No Preferred Playback device. So, device manager recognizes my audio card, but it sees it 2 times, and the audio properties does not recognize my audio card. My audio card is the original Creative Labs card that came with the PC and I have the newest drivers. I also have not added any hardware or software recently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This has happened to me in that past when I was running ME, and what I did to fix the problem was take out the card, uninstall all things that are related to it, then reinstall the soundcard and drivers. That solved the problem for me. Hope it helps you in some way.

had that happen to my once on my winME install too. had the onboard SB pci128 that came with the pc too! unfortunately, I had to reformat before I could get the sound working again... Hopefully, you will find an easier/quicker solution.

The other thing you can try - go into safe mode, and remove all references to the sound card in device manager. Reboot, and see if it re-detects the card.
