There are programs that make it work with windows (you still need a firewire port though I think) and a Linux version was released to put songs on it : http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/02/0....shtml?tid=176

All in all, my friend has the 10Gb version and paid 800$ Cdn which is the main reason why I will never get one. I tried it out though and love it, you can store tons and tons of music, it also has a built in organizer, you can download stuff to add on it (he has a movie review database for every movie since 2000)...

If it was not for the reason that it cost as much as a low end pc, I would get one... it's a fantastic machine, it looks real sharp, fits anywhere (its about the same dimension as a pmcia card but 2.5-3 times as thick)...

More pros: Has the easiest-to-use interface I've ever seen on an MP3 player.
Firewire connection is 30 times as fast as USB for transferring songs.
Can be used as a Firewire hard drive.

Is the extra cost of having a firewire interface really worth it? I know it would take a long time to transfer 10GB of MP3s, but how often do you transfer that many files? Once your basic library is on there, how often do you completely replace it with something else?

Hey! You can alot of pc for 800 bucks CDN. Even with a half decent $200 monitor too factored in. Man, prices are amazing compared to when I picked up my pc 4 years ago. It's a dinosaur now but it still serves my purpose although i'm getting the itch to do the 1.6a overclock thing with a new bigger case (antec 1030b) and some Samsung 2700 memory and new vid card.

You can also steal software from other macs. This thing is awesome it is the next big addition to my collection of stuff I don't need. The only thing is that I would want to use it in cold weather once in awhile, and it can't be in freezing temperatures.
