Getting Rid of those Windows XP Nags

Hi All,

Is there a way to get rid of those nags that 'balloon' up on startup on Windows XP?

Those nags such as "Sign up for a Microsoft.NET Account" or "Take the Windows XP Tour". Is there some registry hack that will ensure these will never pop up for any new user who logs into the machine?

Thanks all

There is, though I don't know what it is. I managed to turn them off, though I don't remember how.

Even if you find it, though, it won't turn off MSN Messenger's "Looky here, there's a new version!" pop-up balloons, which occur about every 10 minutes whenever I'm online. Ooh, that's annoying.

I could just upgrade to shut it up, but I'd feel like I'm spoiling a child.

I think you just need to start up the XP tour and then shut it back down and that wont pop up anymore.

For the annoying messenger thing, you could just uninstall it completely if you dont use it.

I sont get the .net popups, they could be from a cookie on you PC, try using Cookie Wall to delete the cookies you dont want on there.

Those are for software updates - I'd like to keep those.. need to be kept up-to-date on new security fixes.

I'm talking about the "Take a tour of Windows XP" or "Register for your .NET Passport" messages that keep nagging the user after logging in.

The only way I've gone around those messages is to actually take the tour and to register for a .net passport

Thanks for the replies

It has to be something on your machine causing it cause I use XP Pro and have never had any .net/passport popups or any problems with the XP tour thing in the 4-6 months I have used it.

Also try ad-aware to scan for spyware programs that can randomly pop up ads on your pc

you may also find some answeres over at http://tweakxp.com/tweakxp/

These are new , freshly installed XP boxes - so no spyware on them.

I'll check over at tweakxp... maybe someone there has the answer?

Thanks

Is there a way to turn off the popup that comes up everytime something crashes? The popup usually says something like send or don't send some info to M$.

I know this isn't much help, but the pop-up balloons only show up 10 times, after which they disable themselves.
