Is now a good time to buy a Gateway?

There's 2 Gateways in my family right now and I'd like to buy another one. My only reservation is that I think I heard that business hasn't been going too well for Gateway lately. I don't want to buy a computer and have them go out of business on me right afterwards. Anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

If you are happy with Gateway, then buy another one. Them going out of business really won't affect you unless you have a service contract, in which case they may transfer it to some one else.

there is never any good time to buy a Gateway!

just kidding, i'm just not a big fan of Gateway systems, but if they work for you, go for it. I don't think they are in enough trouble to go out of business right now.

i love how everyone rallies around dell, as if the subpar (or overpriced) components are suddenly better if they have a dell sticker on the front.

if you're happy with the gateways that you currently have and you've comparison shopped a bit and a new gateway looks good, go ahead and get it :>

AOL invested a chunk of change ($800 Million) in Gateway a few years ago, if that means anything to ya.

And last year they pumped in another bundle:

they rally around dell.. for specific reasons
you generally get slightly better components in a dell system.. although all of these preassembled machines, are normally made up of crap (mx video cards )
but dell seperates themself from all their competitors through their service and support.. this is why we suggest dell to anyone buying a premanufactured machine

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

As far as I'm concerned Gateway's support is top-notch. A problem with the electricity in my house fried my computer and monitor twice. Both times they had me back in action within a week and at no cost. I've had plenty of questions over the years too but I don't think I've ever waited on hold for more than 15 minutes. I think that's pretty good.
