No audio on my laptop?

Running Win98. Can't seem to get any volume. I don't have the little audio symbol in the system tray either, how can I get it back?

The sytem isn't muted.

thoughts?

Go to your control panel and open up "Sounds." There should be an option for putting the volume control in the system tray.

How do you know your volume's not muted if the icon isn't there?

thanks, it was actually under the mutimedia folder. don't know why it went away and either way it was muted as well.

what I meant about it not being muted was that the button on my laptop to mute the audio was NOT on.
