MP3s magically showing up in Winamp and on hard drive?!?

This is some really weird s**t.

Each day, I open up Winamp on my laptop at work which has only like 350 MP3s on it.

I sort each file alphatbetically by artist, last name first. Likewise, I name each file on the hard drive the same way.

Each day, a file magically shows up, duplicated, accept named first name first.

Example: I have a song by Billy Idol, Eyes without a Face. It's named "Idol, Billy - Eyes without a Face" in both Winamp and on hard drive. Today, I find a duplicte file named "Billy Idol - Eyes without a Face" in both. It happens daily with other songs as well, and it's becoming quite annoying. I only download a song once -- not twice, and I'm meticulous about naming.

Anyone have any good suggestion as to what in the crap is going on here? Thanks a bunch.

Possibly winamp is duplicating and going off of the ID3 tag??

Weird one.

That could be -- but I change the ID3 tag always when naming the files.

I doubt it, but maybe it's a virus?

I run Norton every week or so -- and this has been going on for about a month or two. I'll run it again, and also reinstall Winamp (even though I've been using it for 10 months).

could it be one of those "features" that annoy me where the program is accessing an online database to find the name of the song, artist, etc? and you renamed the file, but the online database is reverting it to the original name? (can't remember what they're called... CDDB or something? i always blocked it with zonealarm)

Well, now I had a file "magically" appear that I have never even downloaded before!

I think it's replacing old songs, too. I had like 359 on there, and then this song magically shows up, and I still have 359....ODD.
