why won't Outlook let me send outgoing mail?

I recently got DSL hooked up at my home and since then, my outlook will only let me emails that end with @indiana.edu! This is the ending of my email address I am using for Outlook. Our house uses a hub and router so I don't know if I am behind some kind of proxy or firewall that is keeping me from doing this? Anybody have an answer?

I'd suspect your tech support buddies that are affiliated with your DSL provider would be able to assist you in this venture perfectly. I mean, any information you'd receive here, albeit helpful, wouldn't be as good as a qualified tech support person walking you through it.

Just my .02 ...

I would call the DSL people but I am not supposed to have the router and stuff so I couldn't tell them I am using it. It is just baffling why I can send some outgoing but not others

sounds like port 25 blocking if you're able to send from one email address and not another.

if you're trying to send from an email address other than your @xxx.edu account, change the outgoing mail servers to match the .edu mail server and you should be ok.

Indiana, despite all its faults , apparently is smart enough to not have an open relay for email. Generally, you will be able to log in and send email as normal. Under "accounts," check the box marked "My server requires authentication. Likely you will be able to use the same settings as your incoming mail server.

If this doesn't work, you will need to set your outgoing email server to that provided by your DSL provider. For example:

smtp server: smtp.dslprovider.com

-leepy

Leepy, you are awesome. The using my DSL suppliers outgoing server worked like a charm. Everything is running smoothly once again. Thanks
