File Recovery Solutions (HELP)

Looks like I've dug myself into a deep hole. I was doing some spring cleaning and accidentally deleted some compressed files with research data. Of course, this wouldn't be a problem if they were in the recycle bin. But, these files were big (~200MB+) and there were several of them. In fact, these were files were much bigger than the alotted space for the recycle bin, and they were permanently deleted. Any chances of me being able to recover them?

This sucks... I don't think I have a back up here at home or at the lab.

You could try Drive Rescue and see what it can recover. I've used this utility successfully before, and it's freeware too. It's best not to save, delete, or move anything until you have determined whether the files are recoverable or not. This will decrease the risk of overwriting the blocks on the drive that contains the data you want.
