Why is my computer automatically making .vbs files for all my .mp3 files?

What do I use to open these .vbs files and why would I possibly want this? Anyway to stop this from happening?

Sounds like you might have a virus.

Ok, thanks. I'm about to check right now. I guess I should probably get a virus scan or something.

a .vbs file is a Visual Basic Script file and the virus you have is turning all your media files into scripts that will infect more things if you try to run them. It's a nasty virus and you'll have to get it taken care of quickly. The website I sent you a link to will scan your computer without you having to download or install a scanner. You also don't need a high-speed connection to the internet. You will have to delete all your infected mp3 files unfortunately. Don't send any email to anyone or even open your email software until you get this under control.

Oh man, I've had this for so long. How dangerous is this? How can I determine which .vbs files to delete? And I must delete all the .mp3 files that this virus made files from? That's a huge bummer considering that's like 350 songs.

It is. It's the VBS_LOVELETTER.AS virus...whatever that is. I thought this thing was just a nuisance, something I may have installed or something. So, just running the housecall thing won't clear my computer completely? What all should I do?

Wow - haven't seen Loveletter in a long time. That's an old virus.

Housecall should clean your computer as well I think. After it finds the infected files, it give you the option to delete or clean them I think. You could also download and install f-prot antivirus. Go here and download it:

http://www.f-prot.com/f-prot/downloa...pwintrial.html

Once you install it, before you run the scan you have to set the options to do more than just report. Set it to disinfect and if it can't do that have it delete the file. That should clean you out good. After doing that, go to Housecall again and scan once more - since the virus is so old, it shouldn't be a problem.

Don't be ignorant or insane. Run a regularly updated virus-scanning program on the background of your system.

I recommend KAV.
