Computer keeps on losing power and rebooting

A friend's PC keeps on shutting down right in the middle of just about everything. Sometimes it happens right when you boot up, other times the compuer is on for hours.

I'm leaning to a new power supply, anybody have any suggestions?

I would agree with the new power supply. As long as the OS or BIOS isn't reporting anything before shutting down.

It took me a while to realize that my connection to the wall was loose after my computer shut down and restarted a few times. Maybe he should try moving to another outlet? Just a thought.

I'll check the wall the next time I go over, thanks for the idea.

I checked his Event Viewer, and I don't know if Verizon does this but there are thousands on entries of the last couple months about him hooking up to his DSL service.

I check the dmp files in C:\winnt\minidump and the files start March 25th, right after he installed Zone Alarm. I'm starting to think it's a combo of Zone Alarm and his DSL service, so I removed Zone Alarm and we'll see where it goes from there.

also try checking for a loose connection where the power supply connects to the mother board
mine got loose one time, never figured out how, and it would randomly restart like I had quickly hit the power button twice
