DVD movie halts every second. Why ???

This problem drives me crazy.

I building a AMD XP 1800+, Gigabyte GA 7VRX+ with 1GB DDR333 and 2x IBM 60GB 7200 rpm AVV disks in striped RAID array, OS =
Win2000+sp1. DVD rom = LiteOn LTD613 (48x/16x), VideoCard = Elsa Gladiac 511 MX. Certainly not a slow system.

Elsa's driver CD locked up the system after install. Windows screen seems OK.

When playing a DVD with PowerDVD XP (latest edition) the movie halts every second for e.g. 300 ms.
Hardware acceleration ON, CPU-utilisation 22% max., terminated all system tray processes, no luck !!!
I'm new to Win 2000, so have no clue where to look.

Any clues?

John

DVD plays smooth @ 2x / 3x but jerky @ 1x

Even more strange,

DVD movies play smooth @ 2x, 3x and 4x.
They play jerky @ 1x.

I don't get this.

Yes, that is strange. Got any programs like a virus scanners running in the background? Which mode is your sound set on in Powerdvd? Stereo? Dolby? A3D? Trusurround? If you picked the highest sound quality mode, that could be messing up the playback
Have you tried WINDVD?
Although I use PowerDVD XP andhave no problems.

Now this is strange. When I use N64 I borrow from a friend, the video act just like what happens to you. And things just getting worse when I turn the Hardware Acceleration on.

I agree with grr1. Try WinDVD. See how it works. WinDVD use less resource than PowerDVD, altough the quality seems lower a bit.

But make no mistake, WinDVD is also a good player.

did you check to see if Elsa has a newer driver?

also I assume you reinstalled the Elsa driver to make sure something did not install- if not try that also.
