Firewire for home network?

Can Firewire IEEE 1394 be used to network computers, for network games and transferring data?
If not, what are the best ways to transfer files quickly?

So is there no way of taking advantage of Firewire's 400 Mbps for transferring data across two computers?

for online gaming, i don't think the difference between 100mbps and 400mbps would ever be noticeable.

here is an article about firewire networking. maximum distance between computers? 15 feet, unless you put in repeaters. you don't want to do that :> unless you have limitless cash burning a hole in your pocket, just stick to ethernet.
