Running out disk space. Advice?

I've got a 4-5 year old Windows NT machine with a 20gig hard drive. The drive is broken up into 2gig (C and 18gig (E. I can't seem to find a way to keep the C: free of any kind of space and it affects many programs I use. Is there a way I can move 1 or 2 gig from the E: to the C:?? I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
gtr986

Also, check which drive your swap file is on.

In WINNT:
Right click on MY Computer -> Properties -> Performance Tab -> Under Virtual Memory Click CHANGE -> You'll see both your C and D drives there with a number range next to one of them (most likely C) -> Click on E and In the Initial Size and Maximum Size boxes type the range that's currently on C and click SET -> Click back on C and type 0's in the 2 boxes and click SET. -> You've just moved the swap file from C to E -> Keep clicking ok until you're done and reboot when prompted.

WINNT should move the pagefile.sys file automatically.

Good luck!

oh man, i wondered how many posts before that answer popped up!

ben732 - Thanks! that alone freed up almost 25% of the drive. it wouldn't let me go 0, 0 for c:. 2, 2 was the lowest it would let me do. Anyhow, I'll give this a whirl for a week or so and see if my problems go away.

I appreciate all of your replies!

I was thinking of how 9x handles it, after rereading the NT instructions my post looks foolish

No problem! Glad I could help!

Yeah, WinNT still wants a Swap File on the boot partition incase it blue screens so it can put the DUMP there...

The swap file will live on your other partition now and have room to grow when needed. As long as you don't install anything new to C and delete your TEMP folder once in a while you should be ok. Also, emptying your Temporary Internet Files once in a while is good too.
